I just spent $8 to airmail $6 worth of colored pencils to Africa. Which involved convincing the postal clerk that in fact Mali is an actual country. Fortunately the post office computer knew I hadn't made it up, even if the clerk himself had his suspicions that I was just a little late with the April Fool's joking. In my little working class neighborhood, apparently they don't get a lot of international mail going out.

In two days I'm off to San Antonio for Six Flags, Sea World, the Alamo and general sightseeing. The kids are looking forward to flying again, almost more than going to the theme parks themselves, and Jesse has spent the morning looking up ground transportation for us, which he loves doing. He's really a big help with travel plans. Dingo, not so much with the planning, but he can charm flight attendants into giving us extra peanuts and cokes, so I guess we'll keep letting him come along on vacation. ;-)

That's really funny b/c someone posted one of those "overheard in blahblahblah" things yesterday. It had to do with a postal clerk that forgot Oregon was in the US for a minute. LOL And these are the people who handle our important letters and packages.

Yeah, the postal clerk was so befuddled that I have no faith that this package is actually going to get to the intended recipient, but hope springs eternal, no? Our own mail here will frequently mysteriously not come on Saturdays and then we get a lot of mail the following Monday. I guess our carrier takes the weekends off a lot. And we get "priority mail" packages that are supposed to be here in a few days sometimes weeks later. Remember that Seinfeld episode where Newman has all the undelivered mail piling up? I think that's what's going on here.

Late Priority Mail and Express Mail packages *require* the Post Awful to pay money to the sender.

I think you need to have words with the local Postmaster. Who is apt to be very unamused at the carriers involved.
