Conestoga

Well, we're through our really busy weekend. Conestoga (a local SF convention) was moved to coincide with everyone's end of semester activities for some reason and it caused me a number of problems as Jack had 3 rehearsals and a tai chi event and Davey had a soccer game. I wish it were still in July when no one is busy but we got through it. We did have to miss the big rocket and airshow at TASM, but maybe they'll have another one. I think it actually caused Conestoga more problems than it did me though, as the convention seemed very subdued and not that well attended this year. I know we only reserved our room a day or two before the con and we had no trouble getting a room. There was one costume signed up in the masquerade, the art auction turned into some sort of fiasco apparently, and the audience for the play was way smaller than usual. One author from Texas posted in her blog that it was so dead that she left Saturday afternoon. I really think late April is a mistake for this con because people with families (and anyone in academia) are busy in April with sports and proms and finals and end-of-school things, but you KNOW they won't be soliciting my opinion, lol, and I'm not sure anyone running it actually HAS kids and would think about that.

The two biggest conventions in Seattle both take place on Easter week-end. I think its weird that they are both so crowded. One is Norwescon which is a standard fan convention - the other is Sakura Con which is an anime'con. I usually have to work at Sakura Con, but I usually find time to stop by Norwescon at some point.

I guess what I'm saying is that you should come visit on Easter!

I've been griping since they first released word of the change - not that my opinion counts either lol!
But perhaps when things roll downhill next year (OKRF date overlap) they'll rethink the issue.

I don't know. I'm definitely not in the Conestoga loop. But Tulsa has always had successful summer cons so I don't know why they'd move it.
