Someone entertain me! I came to work today and three are 4 people here total, two admins, a lady who works in another program and me. And the other lady is going home at noon, so it's just me in my whole half of the floor. Even though we're effectively closed today, we're not really closed, so I came in to help catch the phones and deal with anything that the admins can't, but so far the phone hasn't even rung and I doubt it will.
So tell me what you're doing for Thanksgiving (if you're in the US) or post a joke or tell me something amusing.
I cooked a 23 lb turkey last night, which is an excessively large turkey for our tiny family, but Dad brought it over and said to cook it, so I did, once I jammed it into a roasting pan. It was yummy when I tested it this morning. I have some fabulous cranberry/pineapple/raspberry/walnut sauce from Braums, I'm going to fix some green bean casserole (I typed "asserole" at first there, but that's not what we're having) and I'm going to make some herbed new potatoes, another vegetable and pick up some turkey gravy at Whole Foods, cause I suck at making gravy. My Mom has made the best dressing in the world, which she makes every year and she and Jesse are baking pie and making a broccoli-cauliflower salad. I guess I should get some rolls too, I just thought of that. Anyway, that's an absurd amount of food for just a few people, but there you have it.
R and the kids and I will be eating out with his sister on Saturday also, because she has other plans for tomorrow. That seems like overkill for me, to have two Thanksgivings, but whatever. Thanksgiving isn't actually my favorite holiday because it's a lot of work and no presents, lol, but at least we're getting to eat out for one of them. When I was a child and my grandparents were all alive, we alternated at their houses and had the whole big deal, but now that they're gone, no one really wants to go to my aunt's house where my cousin's 5 or 6 brainwashed children constantly harangue you about getting saved and going to church. My other aunt lives too far away and has her own stuff to do, so it's pretty much just the 'rents and us now. Apparently we still cook like it's the whole extended family though. For Christmas, I think Dad and I are going to make up homemade Chinese food. He makes a mean eggroll and I have been wishing to try my hand at egg drop soup.

Date: 2008-11-26 06:52 pm (UTC)One at my parents' on Thursday. One at her parents' on Friday.
My parents aren't really healthy enough to GO anywhere. And her parents don't like to visit my parents.
Starting Friday evening we're going on our little traditional trip. The past two years we've gone with her parents, but her Dad just got a defibrillator implanted and thinks it's too soon to be going on a trip...
We'll be travelling through some (fairly) nearby counties seeing the sights.

Date: 2008-11-26 07:53 pm (UTC)This year I'll actually get to be at my dad's for the meal itself. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and for my boyfriend to be there with me. Veronica will be there before I even get there, so that will be cool. I don't even have to stress about getting her there.

Date: 2008-11-27 10:06 am (UTC)Mmmm, pie. Someone brought chocolate pie to our work pot luck yesterday. I was so glad, since I don't like pumpkin pie!

Date: 2008-11-27 10:07 am (UTC)Our neighbors (who are also friends) use our wireless, but their apartment is right behind our apartment, on the other side of our wall, so they don't have any trouble at all.
