I've been at a family funeral in Arkansas all day. Well, a funeral and assorted funeral related ativities. The funeral itself was blessedly short, but fairly icky as the preacher was just not good and didn't know the deceased anyway and the staff for the deceased's schizophrenic daughter were 30 minutes late bringing her and that's not cool. The graveside service was also short, but not short enough because it was hot like the surface of the sun in Arkansas today and we were all in suits and dresses and such.

The dinner afterward for the family was tasty and voluminous as befits a southern funeral and it had a high point as well, when an elderly but still zany aunt pointed out some young female cousin to Jesse and said that he should go chat up "that cute little number over there." I had to tell her that even though we may have roots in Arkansas, I disapprove of the boys picking up girls at family reunions. And you thought Jeff Foxworthy was making things up...

Oh my gosh, what a way to have to spend the day - I'm sorry for your loss.
I must say I have to wonder at the look on Jesse's face when she said that, though !

He was lost in his own head and fairly oblivious to what she was getting at. As usual.

TeehHee at the zany aunt:)

I hate funerals done by people who didn't know the deceased at all... especially if they try to act like they did. I know, sometimes people just want whomever... but it just irks me, especially after my brother's funeral and the moron of a preacher that did the service.

This isn't a very uplifting and friendly comment. Sorry.

That's ok, it wasn't a very uplifting funeral.

The best part was when the pastor said in the course of his sermon, that "heaven is like a family reunion that never ends" and I thought "Noooooooooooooooo!" as a stabbing pain shot through my right eyeball at the very thought of that.

Oh. My. God. If a preacher said that at one of my relatives' funerals... I probably would not have been able to stop myself from screaming in anguish. No thank you.

I'm so sorry for your families loss. If there is anything I can do please ask.

Your old aunt is a hoot! Gotta teach them youngsters early. :)

All my old aunts are hoots, really. It's quite a colorful family. :-)
