Today the kids and I saw a rather large turtle about to get run over out on 51st street so we stopped and picked it up and brought it home and let it loose in our big yard. He hung around the garden a while and now has disappeared into the bushes somewhere. We have a large yard with lots of trees and underbrush, and most importantly, a garden which he's probably now going to feast upon. But even if he eats our garden, I still wouldn't have felt right about leaving an old turtle like that to get smooshed on 51st street.

yeah I would have felt awful about leaving it there too .. would not be able to sleep with hinking about what might have happened. sound slike he has lots of space to roam around now. Did ye get any photos of it?

We had a tortoise for about six years for the very same reason. Unfortunately we didn't have the nice yard to set him free in. We got a tank to keep him in. He liked to watch tv with me. He was a nice pet.
