Soccer season is over

Tonight was Dingo's last soccer game for the spring season. The team did great, one of the girls scored a goal, and we all had a wonderful time and afterward I had bought them all pizza and they got trophies and some of the other moms brought snacks and goodie bags. We were not, technically speaking, a really good team. I have kids ranging from tiny 5 year olds to 7 year olds and we played some teams that were all big 7 year olds, but hey, it's just a fun league so whatever. At least it was a fun league for us. There were a couple of coaches who took it a wee bit seriously, fortunately not tonight's opposing coach. This team was our size and also just in it for the fun and snacks like we are.

I'll be glad to have some free time back, but I'll miss those kids! The best part of the evening for me was when I talked to my best player's mom and told her that he's ready for competitive soccer if she wants to put him in it. He's very good and has skills I didn't teach him. She said she'd consider it, but if I'm going to coach next year, she'd rather leave him with me and Mom because they liked us so much. I got a little verklempt. I don't know if I'll coach next fall. I won't if they already have someone for that age group (Dingo moves up to the 2nd/3rd grade league) but if they don't, I'd probably do it again, particularly if I get some of these same kids back. I've gotten a little attached!

I very much miss the kids from both of my plays. I wanted to do another this summer just so I could see them again, but its not working out. I know what you mean, though!

It seems like it was just last week that you first posted about volunteering! How awesome that you had a fun, positive experience... and some time with your son at the same time. What a good mommy:)
