Today we worked in the yard, I had a very nice lunch with [livejournal.com profile] tapestry01, we took the kids to the Geoscience Center for a field trip set up by my friend Susan, and I got the boys' hair cut. Susan and I had a really good talk while the kids went on the geoscience tour and did the activities. She's had about the same experience with Campfire that I've had (Campfire is where I met her), but she quit and helped start another group rather than stay and deal with cliquishness. I don't know when to quit though, so we stay. The kids love this group anyway and I just have to keep reminding myself that it's for them, not for me. We talked about some other things of mutual interest too and it was really pleasant to reconnect with her.

This evening the kids and I are probably just going to watch TV and maybe do a little cleaning unless we get a better offer.

Is the Geoscience Center a new thing? My youngest brought home a permission slip today for a field trip. She expected me, as a science teacher, to know all about it, but I'm clueless.

It's been around for several months at least, cause my kids have been before. They have a lot of geoscience-related items and memorabilia, but what they do with the kids is a unit on rocks and minerals and then a unit on fossils and how they form. They let our kids make a plaster mold of an ammonite to take home too, which was kind of cool. I don't know what they do with the school kids but I assume something similar. It's not open regular hours for the public to the best of my knowledge, just for field trips and special events.
