Feb. 15th, 2006 12:37 pmSigh. We've had this black and white fuzzy tomcat living in our yard for a couple of years. He used to be too scared to come to anyone, but Jesse got him a little more socialized and now he's here a lot. We don't feed him, but he's here anyway. No idea what he's eating, but he's plump and clearly eating something. Anyway, he showed up this week with a big gash in his face and his eye all red so we're taking him to the vet cause he's just pathetic and clearly no one else is taking care of it. Jesse is kind of attached to him anyway and I can't just leave him out there like that. Actually, I kind of like him better than the cat we actually have, but I don't think I can trade and just put her outside and bring him in, lol. Anyway, I called the vet clinic and they were very snotty about it but got us an appointment today. The girl was, in addition to just cranky at our bringing him in (which I sort of thought was a nice thing for us to do), very insistent that we had to get him his shots and tests and spend as much money as humanly possible, which is fine I suppose if it were actually our freaking cat that we had gotten on purpose. We'll probably end up doing it anyway. Sigh again. At least while we're there we can arrange to have Tigerlily (our actual cat) spayed soon.
Other than that, we got a lot of work done on the yard today and I may have found where I left my glasses yesterday. I have a date to go out to Wild Oats for my favorite salad bar tonight. We're having salad because, if you can believe this, I received a complaint yesterday that my cooking was TOO good and it was causing my guy to gain weight because he couldn't resist eating a lot of it, lol. I didn't promise to start cooking poorly, but I did tell him I would try to work in more salads and lean chicken and such.
*edit* Dad says just get the cat all the shots and get it neutered and we'll keep it. Thanks Dad, on behalf of Jesse and Dingo..

Date: 2006-02-15 07:58 pm (UTC)The day vet I worked for (and all of them, I think) require that stuff as policy for routine things like spay/neuter, dental work, etc...but not for Good Samaritans helping out a neighborhood stray with an immediate medical problem. We'd recommend that those things be done, but it was never a requirement. Why hit people who are already fitting something extra in their budget for a cat that's not theirs?
That being said, I'm glad he's getting everything done anyway. But before you spend a bunch of money, get him FeLV/FIV tested as the first procedure, and nuke him if either are positive. They're most common in intact males who roam, and as I'm sure you know, they are transmissible to other cats, and there is no treatment for them.
