The kids and Mom and I just got home from a Cornerstone meeting. It was the holiday party meeting with family photos, lots of crafts and snacks and those of us who could sew also had a couple of tables making pillows for preemies to hospital specs. I like Cornerstone a lot. There's no official leader, no bylaws, no assignments and not too much bullshit. One lady sort of gets up and announces the meetings and organizes things because she's good at it, but anyone is free to plan their own activities or field trips and announce them. And they have activities like puzzles set up at the corner of the room for the little kids during the main program in case they get bored. It's pretty cool as homeschooling groups go.

Last month's meeting, which I never wrote about because I got busy, was really great. This guy came and did a presentation on Oklahoma history using the actual flags from the OK capitol flag plaza which he had talked the state into letting him have when they took them down. He used the flags and made amazing balloon hats, swords, animals, etc to explain things as he went along and kept the kids just riveted and laughing a lot. I even learned a bunch of OK history I hadn't known.

Probably the best part about Cornerstone is that the other parents there are actually friendly and I haven't noticed it being particularly cliqueish, which is a giant bonus. I think maybe it's mostly the people who don't like the elitist atmosphere of other groups that go to this one. Or something, anyway, it's cool.

I had considered trying to come. I've never been to one and I just don't think December is a good starter month. Besides, I was too busy.

Are there not a lot of the same people in this group as the other?

Marilyn is the only other Campfire mom who comes and she's always been nice to me. Susan comes, but of course she doesn't come to Campfire anymore. I doubt you know most of the people there; it's a lot of new people. Keeshi and Constantine come though.

Do you think it's to late to take my daughter to those things?

No, there are plenty of Moms with older kids. It seems like they are very welcoming to everyone. There are no dues, but they ask if your family can, to make a $2 donation per family per meeting for art supplies, service projects, etc.
