Jan. 11th, 2003 12:21 pmI gave blood this morning. Yay! I've been deferred for mildly low iron for about a month, so I've been trying to be more carnivorous and I also took some prescription iron supplements that I had left over after my post-c-section anemia thing. They still had to put my blood in the little machine, but it came back ok.
My ex-husband was there giving blood too. He was reasonably friendly with me. Sometimes he snubs me entirely and sometimes he's fine with me. I never know which it'll be. And a friend of mine who's a doctor was there, working as a canteen lady. She said not to tell anyone she's a doctor. It was mysterious. And another friend was there giving too. It was like a little party. They were giving away pizza today, which kind of sucked, since I'm trying to keep on this low-carb diet. Anyway, I resisted the pizza, except for one little bite which I stole from my friend.
I found out, when I got home, that a long-time friend of the family is suddenly in the ICU with a severe blood sugar crisis. I didn't even know she had blood sugar problems. She is better, but not out of the woods yet, they said. I wish there were something I could do for her or her husband, but my parents are there at the hospital lending what support they can. Send her good thoughts if you're so inclined.
