Is it odd that I worried about the fate of a woman half a world away when there's so much other bad stuff in the world to worry about? Well, I did anyway. But I'll sleep easier tonight.

You know what bothers me now? What kind of life will that poor women have now?

The story I read about that last night gave more information. The man who she claims fathered the child denied the claim. By Islamic law all he had to do was to bring a couple of his buddies to court to say he never had sex with her, and he was off the hook! No blood test, much less DNA test. Just his word and that of his buds.

And several men insist that she should have been stoned to death. What a hateful society! I can't begin to imagine what it must be like for women who live like that.

Even if it was a different man than the one she claims impregnated her, ANY man who would have sexual relations with a woman, leave her pregnant with his child, and then not speak up to save her from that brutal death deserves WORSE than stoning. Imagine what kind of a society it must be that would raise such men!

I was so excited to hear that she finally got free.... This has been hanging over her head for nearly 2 years now, and the only reason they didn't go ahead and execute her was that she is breast-feeding the child and they were waiting until the child was weaned (!). And now that she's free, all these men are howling that they would stone her themselves if they could because she violated the Koran (without saying a word about the MAN who impregnated her). I hope she takes Brazil up on their offer of asylum!
