Holy crap. I read some posts about Michelle Obama today on a conservative posting board and they said everything but the word 'uppity.' Apparently she's an 'arrogant bitch,' a 'girl' and she needs to stop telling good Americans that their kids should eat healthy and basically shut the hell up about everything. Because she's the first First Lady who ever had a health or education project. Oh, wait, she's just the first BLACK First Lady who's had a health or education project. I don't remember anyone calling Laura Bush a hateful cunt for suggesting kids should read, even though a lot of us didn't think her husband was a great president.

I get it when one doesn't agree with the President's policies, but suggesting that his 'girl' of a wife ought to get her bitch ass back in the kitchen and leave real Americans alone, shows that one is either an unrepentant racist or has no historical understanding of what First Ladies have done and what their role has been throughout the last 200+ years. Either way, I take a person's actual arguments a lot less seriously than I might have otherwise.

My observation is that almost all of these neocon never accepted that there is a black man our president.

I *like* to think that most people on the other end of the political spectrum from me are just good people with different priorities than myself, but the crazy name-calling, conspiracy theories, and blind hatred about this President and his wife lead me to believe that there are also just a lot of racists out there who will never be able to cope with the idea of a black president. I have a lot of hope that my sons' generation will see some improvement. I am unsure though. My younger son at 8 didn't know the N-word until a young friend of his at the homeschool group used it about the President. Sigh.

But I also note they have that hatefulness toward any women in power. it is just ramped up if you are a women of color.

That's true, Angel. Sigh. There's still a long way to go.

I have read derogatory comments about every wife of a President for the time period that I've been paying attention- which would be as far back as Nancy Reagan.
While I agree that attacking her project is unkind, I can't imagine how you missed the attacks on Nancy, Barbara, Hillary, and Laura - which were quite similar in tone.

While I agree that they were blasted by their husband's political foes and enemies quite heartily, none of those First Ladies were attacked on the basis of their skin color. They were never the subject of terms like "Mrs. YoMama", nor did they ever have their bodies compared to a bottle of Aunt Jemima syrup. It's more malignant and vicious this time around, at least the other women had the decency to not be black.
