Well, Jesse had his first Annie rehearsal tonight. He seems very happy. A lot of his friends are in it (He has friends!) and he got a good role, Bert Healy, plus 3 chorus roles. His last play, though it turned out to be a success, kind of got him down. There were some good kids in it and he likes the director, but he felt like a lot of the kids were unreliable and unprofessional and he was afraid they would compromise the show. As it was, it was very funny, but he was so worried about everyone's performances that it took some of the fun out of it for him. Dingo enjoyed it a lot though. The first night he didn't think he would, but it really grew on him. He was pretty sick for the last half of the rehearsals and the actual shows, but he still enjoyed it.

Anyway, Annie looks to be really good. I know a lot of the kids in it and they're good performers. The teens in it are all stage veterans (as much as you can be at that age) and the little kids have a lot of talent. While I was watching the auditions, there were two little girls that I thought were real standouts for Annie and I could not figure out how the director was going to decide between them. As it is, she cast them both and they'll alternate performances. I like that because it gives them both a chance to play Annie, plus lets them rest their voices on alternate nights.

So anyhow, I'm a proud stage mom again, although I suspect I'm a little laid back to be a real stage mom. This will be Jesse's 9th full length play. After this he says he isn't going to try out for the next play at his home theater, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, because he was already in it the last two years. Dingo is going to try out for it though. I'm not sure he'll get a part, but he would like to try. Jesse is going to offer to work tech for it though, if they need him. He also offered to step into a BCPE role at the last minute for his last director, who is putting it on in Broken Arrow, if she needed him to, which he meant as a joke but I know he really would, lol. What with the plays, their acting classes, improv, and stagecraft classes, I forsee a lot of sitting in theatre seats in my future...

After a visit from my family - I can assure you, that you have magnificently well behaved children, and I hope I get to see them in something sometime!

I'll try to send you a DVD of one of their performances.

They really are pretty good kids. I don't have a lot of trouble getting them to behave. I think I got my bluff in early when they were little, which is key to keeping them in line when they get big. :-)

Believe me, there is nothing wrong with being a laid-back Stage Mom; I've known too many of the other kind.

So far I've done pretty well with just making Jesse responsible for his own stuff. I'd step in if there were a real problem with a director and him of course, but so far that's never happened.

I agree with Susi,laid-back stage Mom is MUCH better, I have seen far too many of the other kind! Besides if Jesse were to wake up tomorrow and decide acting wasn't for him anymore, you wouldn't do like some stage Mom's do and force him to keep with it to satisfy your dreams of stardom! Stay laid back, you'll all have more fun.

I'll be there a lot and do whever they need me to do, but I'm not pushy or throwing fits or anything. When it's just Jesse in a play, I pretty much leave it all up to him. He needs to keep his rehearsal schedule, learn his lines, etc. It's his play, not mine. I would be sad if he stopped acting because he enjoys it so much, but I certainly wouldn't make him if he didn't want to.

Also great to have 2 leading ladies because if one falls ill or can't make a show you already have a backup! Great planning!

I'm glad Jack enjoys the stage so much and it is neat to see how Jesse is testing the waters himself and enjoying it too!

I thought that too. A built in understudy is a good idea.

This particular post made me miss doing the one play Tyler and I did... but my schedule simple does NOT permit rehearsals. (I work evenings.)
