lisamoe: (Jesse and Dingo)

Well, our school year is winding down so CampFire and some of the homeschool groups are out until fall, but the summer still looks pretty busy. Both boys will continue guitar lessons, kung fu and tai chi. They both have 4 weeks of swimming lessons scheduled this summer. (Jesse will finish up the Red Cross swimming progression!) Jesse has a two week drama camp and Dingo would like to go to a two week city parks camp (but I don't have it scheduled yet.) Jesse is continuing his improv classes for at least part of the summer, plus he wants to try out for a play that if he gets, will take up July and part of August, but it's at Spotlight Theatre, so I'm guessing he won't get a part. Both boys are in the Library's summer reading program too, plus Jesse has some math to continue over part of the summer, since he took a few weeks off to concentrate on his play. I don't know if they'll continue Homeschool PE over the summer, but I suspect they will, plus they have free bowling coupons for the whole summer so they'll probably want to go do that some. Anyway, still looks like a lot of being a taxi for Mom and me, but I do like them to keep busy.

It usually depends on the director. John is pretty clique-ish from what I've seen, but I'm not sure they're all that way. I don't think Kathryn or Kris would be that way... although maybe enough people have had bad experiences, that fewer people audition now? They've given up?

We were talking about it at the last performance of Jesse's play the other day and several of the other Clark parents said they'd had the same experience of their kids not really getting a good chance to audition at Spotlight, but I don't know who the specific directors were. The one the time I took Jesse it was a man, but I don't know about the ones R took him to. He knows he doesn't have a good chance, but he likes to audition anyway, for the practice at auditioning if nothing. I don't know that he's ever going to win an Tony, but he is the kind of person who will keep persevering and work hard to do the best he can even if he doesn't always succeed. (Unlike his mom, lol!)

BTW, I am really grateful to you for casting him in Mr Toad. That was the first thing he'd tried out for on his own that he was cast in, and it was a really good experience for him.

Kathryn was great. She had plenty of "regulars" and her own students in The Little Mermaid, but (and perhaps specifically because she was a teacher) she seemed to have a very fair attitude about it all.

As for all that busy... I like for the kids to be a little busy, but if I had all THAT going on, I'd feel totally overwhelmed. I just couldn't do it. I'd have melt downs all the time, I'm sure of it. I don't know how you two do it (especially to then ever doubt yourselves). You two are awesome moms!
