A conversation yesterday:

Me: Jesse, could you watch your brother for a couple of hours tonight?

Jesse: Sure, where are you going?

Me: To a Swedish Vampire movie at the Circle.

Jesse: Can't we go too? What's it rated?

Me: I don't know. It's Swedish, that's all I know about it.

Jesse: I wish I remembered the Swedish movie rating system.

Me: Did you ever even KNOW the Swedish rating system?!?

Jesse: Yes, but I don't remember it right now. I know Egypt's movie rating system. Wanna hear about that? They have "G" and "NC-17" and that's all.

Me: Does Egypt let women into the NC-17 movies?

Jesse: I don't think they let women into ANY movies.

He's homeschooled, ya know! :-) He has a different curriculum.... In fact, I'll bet the huge majority of public schools don't cover Egyptian (OR Swedish, for that matter) movie rating systems more than once a semester....

The things we learn from our children... especially from YOURS!

Though now I'm terribly curious about the Swedish movie rating system... so if he remembers it at some point, be sure to let us know!

Wouldn't it have an American rating before being played here anyway?

Yes, if they've submitted to the MPAA here. If something isn't submitted, it just gets an "unrated," which the theatres treat as an NC-17. I don't think you HAVE to submit a movie to the MPAA, but the chain theatres won't show it if you don't. This one was rated R.

Apparently he looked up all the various countries' movie ratings. he thinks the one that makes the most sense is the 6+, 8+, 10+, etc.
