Yes We Can (Keep Our Kids Up Too Late!)
Aug. 28th, 2008 11:56 pmTonight at Jesse's request, I took the kids over to the TWU union hall to watch the Dem convention on big screens, plus he wanted to pick up yard signs and sign up to work although what he thinks he's going to do, I have no idea. I'm excited that my 11 year old is that interested in politics but we're in a lot of activities already without me driving him to voter registrations and rallies in the park, lol. He has been watching the convention all week, which is certainly more than I've been doing.
R went with us to the event, which I was a little surprised about because he usually isn't all worked up about politics the way I tend to get, but I think he even had a good time and was glad he went along. I know Jesse and I had a really good time. It was a nice atmosphere there, lots of snacks, happier Democrats than I've seen for years and speeches that I enjoyed. You may not agree with Barack Obama's policies but inarguably, the man can give a rousing speech.
Dingo was not caught up in the magic, incidentally, so he just played chess on R's cell phone all night. He did like yelling "Yes We Can" along with everyone, but Dingo will join in with any mob where he gets to yell something, on account of being a 7 year old boy. If they had been yelling "Burn the Witch!" or "Let's All Jump Off a Cliff!" he would have been just as enthusiastic. He was pretty interested in the chex mix too, but that's as far as his interest in politics goes.
