Once again, a busyish weekend. On Saturday I went to Hutchinson KS to the Cosmosphere to hear Walt Cunningham speak. He was one of the original Apollo program astronauts and gave a very good speech. Plus in conjunction with his speech, they had a pre-screening of a documentary on the men who walked on the moon, which was very good. It's not released yet, but the name of it is "The Wonder of it All" and I gather the director, who was there to speak as well, is trying to sell it to the Discovery Channel or the History Channel or some such. I saw a number of people I knew from the SF community, which was basically ok, but there were a few asking the most dumbass questions of the director and the astronaut and buttonholing the director about really stupid shit as he was walking around. It made me remember why SF fans have such a reputation for a complete lack of social skills. Most of them are fine people I'm sure, but there is a larger than average number of socially clueless people in the community and those are certainly the ones people remember.

While in Hutchinson I also saw the new Underground Salt Museum, which is a tram tour and museum set up in a salt mine 650 feet underground. It was more interesting than it sounds. I've been in a gold mine before and this was very different, large and clean and without that claustrophobic feeling. More like you're in an underground warehouse, which I guess you kind of are, because in some of the tunnels right next door to this is an enormous underground storage facility used by hospitals, Hollywood studios, archives and others. Apparently salt mines make great non-humid storage.

Along the way on Saturday I also went to Wyldewood Winery in Mulvane, KS and to an Amish Cheese and Gift Shop in Yoder, KS. All in all a very long day since I started out at 8 am and got home at midnight.

Sunday was less eventful. R and the kids and I went shopping and had lunch at Braums and then the kids and I parked ourselves in the couch most of the rest of the day. Jesse has gotten into the TV show Monk so we watched about 5 episodes of that I had on DVR while Dingo built simulated rollercoasters on the computer. I also cleaned out my car and made homemade soup and did a few chores, but all in all not too exciting a day compared to Saturday. The kids both seemed to really enjoy not having to be anywhere all day and just getting to relax.

Today I went to the gym with R and spent some time on stairmaster type machines and then did a quick strength training workout. We're going again Wednesday I think. It's a little hard for me to make time in the day to get over there on a regular schedule, but I'm trying. Tonight is gaming night with my friends Greg, John and Dean and I'm looking forward to that and then coming home to watch some Ugly Betty or Psych.

Sounds like a nice weekend. :)

I'm still working on using the treadmill three times a week.

I wish I had room for a treadmill or stairstepper, but I literally have no available floor space without moving it into Jesse's room or completely replacing my coffee table with exercise equipment.
