Dude, long scooter ride.
Jun. 3rd, 2007 05:31 pmSo one of the local scooter clubs, Motorini on the Prairie, had a big (60 mile) scooter ride planned today and as I had nothing on the agenda aside from housecleaning, I decided I'd rather scoot than vacuum. There were 18 scooters, all different kinds, and it went pretty well for most of the ride, though riding in formation makes me a little nervous. I did ok though, even though I have the only scooter that's not brand new and shiny or classic and shiny. Like my car, my scooter is just old, but cheap and functional.
We rode out to some lake or another, had a little rest, rode some back roads out over Keystone Dam and some other small dam I'd never seen before and then, someone's scooter broke down. He was at the end, so the guy in front didn't know it for a couple of miles. When he was made aware and we got stopped, he rode back to find the folks with the stalled scooter and...never came back. The stalled scooter and the people with them showed up after about 15 minutes, having gotten things running enough to make it the rest of the way, but they didn't pass the ride leader on the way to us. Curious. I shouldn't have thought he'd get lost as it was his route we were riding.
After about another half-hour and having sent someone back to look for the guy with no results, we went on to the ride ending location, El Maguey in Sand Springs, and had dinner. Afterward someone reached the ride leader's wife and she said he was on his way home, but that's all we know. No idea where he was all that time or if he got lost or why he didn't come on to the restaurant. Anyway, that's the longest I ever rode my scooter and I was tired by the time I got home and I'm kind of glad to be sitting around in the air conditioning. Only I'm going back outside in the heat now to grill some pork chops, so maybe I'm not too bright.
