Yesterday at the theme park.
Apr. 20th, 2007 02:44 pmSo on a whim, Mom and I decided to drive the kids to Silver Dollar City yesterday since everyone had season passes anyway, and Jesse was all worked up about going to this "World Fest" they were having. I took the day off work and we left at 7 am, not returning til 11 pm. It was a nice drive up and a beautiful day. I talked Jesse onto the big mine train style coaster, Thunderation. He loved it so much he rode it 9 more times over the course of the day. Dingo rode it once, but went back to Fire in the Hole (which is a very mild coaster, more of a funhouse, really, and the kiddie coaster after that. We rode the flooded mine shooting game a number of times, I talked Jesse onto this big fast saucer ride and the viking ship, which he's always been scared of. I knew he'd be fine though, and he was. Dingo rode the big swing ride for the first time also. We saw the Chinese acrobats, did some shopping, Dingo rode lots more kiddie rides, and I also got to ride Wildfire, which is a thrill coaster with several inversions. Powder Keg was out of order, so I still haven't ridden it. We finished up the day by spending a couple of hours riding the Lost River of the Ozarks ride, which is one of those things where they have big round boats seating 6 that they send down a very splashy river. The sign says you will get "bathtub wet" and they aren't kidding. Jesse rode that 11 times and Dingo and I rode it 9. I wasn't dying to go on this ride but Dingo had to have an adult go, sigh. They were so so happy though, so I guess I'm happy I went. We left soaking wet and of course I'd brought spare clothes for the kids, but not for myself, so I got to ride back to Tulsa that way. Except for the damp trip back, awesome day!

Date: 2007-04-23 03:20 pm (UTC)Branson has Silver Dollar City, which I actually enjoy more than Six Flags, as far as theme parks go, but after that Branson is mostly shows and go-cart tracks and shopping and caves. Not really the cultural heritage that San Antonio has, but plenty of things to do actually. It is cheaper to go, though, and an easy drive.
WorldFest only runs through May 6th though. You might check the SDC website and see if they start another festival before the end of May.
If it were me and I wanted a real vacation, I'd go on to San Antonio and then just make a two day trip to Branson some other time to go to Silver Dollar City.
