Jan. 13th, 2006 12:45 amDingo really wanted to sleep in the upper bunk of his brand new bunk beds tonight, which I figured was fine. He has rails on it, and he's been in a bunk bed before, and I have a thick foam playmat right by the bed just in case. Despite this, I am lying in bed a little while ago and hear a horrible thunk, just like a little head hitting the floor; with no crying or a scream afterward, which as you parents know, is a bad sign for something like that.
So I run in with my heart racing and...the kids are both in bed, just fine. In the living room a motorcycle helmet had apparently fallen off a shelf where I had stacked some stuff precariously leaning on it. I am wide awake now though and have gone in twice to look at Dingo and make sure he's ok.
Speaking of the bunk beds, they came out great and looked really good after I put the new bedding on. Dingo's room is a medium blue with a bright white ceiling and will have red trim when I get to it. For sheets he picked these with a pattern of Texas flags on them (because of the colors I assume) and then for a quilt he picked a red, white and blue nautical motif. Very all-American looking and boyish. And well matched, for a 4 year old to have picked out. The upper bunk just has a reversible light blue/dark blue comforter, since you can't really see into that bunk very well anyway. I gave him a red lamp out of my bedroom too.
Jesse's room isn't painted and his new bed isn't together yet (tomorrow we're going to make some inroads on that) but he's picked out dark gold walls with medium blue trim and a blue quilt that's just an abstract traditional quilt design. And his new sheets are stars and moons in white, gold and blue to match the walls. I think that's going to look very good too. Even with the silly floor lamp he picked out, which is multicolored. They both have lamps in their rooms, as none of us like to sleep in total dark. I nearly always sleep with a small light on and I'm afraid I passed that on to the kids.
They both got a blue beanbag chair also. I'm very proud of how well they did at picking out things and keeping an eye on how much it was costing and keeping in mind the colors. I wanted them to pick their own things and probably would have let them get stuff that wasn't coordinated if it was what they wanted, but I'm glad it all was. They make me proud in so many ways, even in little things like that. :-)
