The yard has been full of giant cranes, trucks, stump grinders, workmen, backhoes, etc for two days. We've had no place to park our cars and we had to drive the dog around in the car with us for hours today because the workmen were in her yard. They are gone just now and our trees are all trimmed and the dead ones removed. That's the good news. The bad news is that they'll be back to start roofing on Monday and who knows how long THAT will take. No pain, no gain, but it's weird to have our normally very quiet wooded yard alive with noisy activity. I am going to be just overjoyed once the roof is replaced though. I think that'll be the turning point on getting this place fixed up. I may get a new stove very soon too. And if I whine enough, perhaps a high capacity washer and dryer.

While we were driving around this morning, we got a call from my aunt that my 83 year-old grandmother had fallen and broken her arm and was on the way to the hospital. We dropped my Dad off to take care of her and then took the dog to PetsMart and the park and then went back and picked up my dad and took him home and then back to my grandma's. We also managed to secure the dog at home, so we were free to go pick up [livejournal.com profile] mstami's daughter and take her to the zoo with us. She is about the most charming teenage girl I have ever met and she was a joy to have along. She seemed to enjoy it, even though my kids dragged her to every single exhibit with perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm. After we dropped her back off, we went to the store and bought my grandmother dinner and ran it by and then came back home, which is where I am now, hoping to get a bubble bath soon.

Somewhere in there, I crocheted both boys a new winter scarf. Davey's is a variegated blue/aqua traditional kind of crocheted scarf. Jack wanted his in royal blue chenille, so I made it kind of skinny and elegant to go with his leather coat. They both seem very excited to have something handmade.

Guess that's all, but it's probably enough, no?
