Today was R's birthday and the kids and I went shopping and then to the RenFaire with him. The kids went through the maze twice, rode the camel twice, ran the "gauntlet" twice, and got all sorts of snacks. R and I got snacks too including fudge to bring home, and I got my hair braided all fancy and got a necklace. We watched a funny singing pirate show, went through the catacombs and just walked around a lot. Then when we came back to town we went with R for a birthday dinner at Fuji, which is where he wanted to go. We dropped him off after that and came home, where we appear to be pretty lethargic. I know it's Mayfest weekend too, but I just can't do it. After we went to Frontier City yesterday, one more big event with kids and I may shut down completely, lol.

Edit: Oh! I forgot to say the best part. We also took the horse carriage through the Faire and for half of it we had a huge Scotsman standing up yelling "Welcome to Angusland!" in the carriage with us. That was very festive.

You didn't miss much at Mayfest, trust me. You've "make the kids so happy they collapse" enough for this weekend I would suspect.

When I was a child, my family never missed Mayfest and I still have fond memories of it, but it seems to have changed in character (and size) a lot over the years. The only thing I really wanted specifically this year was to look at one jewelry vendor who is usually there (I have a ring that she sells additional stones for) but I like outdoor festivals in general anyway. I think Mayfest is actually a little depressing for me though, remembering the festival of my childhood and comparing it with how it is now.
