Feb. 5th, 2005 03:02 amYou know it's going to be a trying evening when you pick your children up from your mom and she says "Don't give the three year old his shoes."
Actually, he calmed right down for me and went to bed early once we got home. I think he and Jack both were just a little clingy after the funeral (as evidenced by the crying and clinging, lol) and didn't want me to go back to work, but I just had to. I've been off most of the day for over a week and I had a couple of immoveable appointments. Once I was back with the kids, they were good. I made them homemade waffles for dinner, by special request, and they took it pretty easy on me in the evening. Even let me take a bubble bath.
The funeral took up about 4 hours or more in the morning, by the time we met the family, rode to the church together, had the viewing and funeral, rode to the grave and back, ate lunch at the church and retrieved our cars from my SIL's in BA. The kids and their two cousins enjoyed riding in the limosines, and Jack held it together pretty well til the actual burial, when he became pretty hysterical for a while. The funeral itself was very nice and R's uncle only told one off color story when he got up to speak a few words. I think Amy would have thought it was pretty funny though.
I talked to R a couple of times after the service and he seemed to be doing basically ok, but was very sad of course. A lot of his friends and co-workers came to the funeral, and I think that meant a great deal to him. Today he's going to take the boys to do some fun stuff to keep everyone from sitting around brooding.
Anyway, it was a very long day, I didn't even get off work til past 7:00 and in the evening I just didn't have the energy to do anything but come home and feed the kids. I appreciate the invitation to go to girls night out very much, you know who you are, and I'm sorry I was a party pooper. Please ask me again next time. And thank you to everyone who's read all this depressing stuff. I think we're closing this chapter and are getting on with our weird little lives now, so it's probably safe to return to my journal with the expectation that it won't be so much gloom and doom. :-)
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
